Political psychology offers an interdisciplinary outlook of
a human being in the context of social and political system. It examines influences
of societal and political factors on individual functioning as well as investigates
psychological aspects of political behavior and events. Political psychology
brings together scholars of psychology, political science, history, sociology
and other related fields in a common effort aimed at examining human thinking
and actions in the dynamic context of politics.
For last decades, Europe has been undergoing major political, institutional,
social and cultural changes. Collapse of the communist system, formation of
the European Union, progressing globalization - to name just a few - brought
about improvements as well as severe social problems. Thus, this particular
region of the world provides a context in which knowledge and expertise in the
area of political psychology might prove especially useful. At the same time,
this is also the context in which new knowledge may emerge, from which political
psychology may derive new insights, understandings and incentives.
