SUMMER INSTITUTE PROGRAM

ESIPP program will focus on theoretical and methodological issues of political psychology as well as on issues having special relevance for the development of European countries and integration of Europe. The main programmatic goal of the ESIPP is the improvement of young scholars' (participants of ESIPP) teaching and research abilities on the basis of its curricula. Another important goal is to facilitate understanding of different schools in political psychology aimed at identifying both, overlapping approaches as well as inventive peculiarities. For example, factors influencing the process of implementation and transformation of democratic policies, problems of national and supranational identities, consequences of and unequal social and economic development, inter-group conflicts and their resolutions, relations with minority groups, multiculturalism, etc.

Structure

MORNING SESSIONS:
During morning sessions invited professors, experts in the field of political psychology will give lectures and hold discussions combining the form of lectures and group discussion will be lead by experts in the field of political psychology. Each day all of you will attend two sessions on two different topics. They will focus on theoretical issues and basic topics in the field of political psychology (click here for detailed topic of morning sessions).

DISCUSSION GROUPS:
Afternoon discussion groups will further develop the topic of the morning sessions. You will be asked to choose one of the discussion groups according to your interests. During the afternoon meetings you will discuss readings assigned by lecturers who held the morning sessions. You will be given one compulsory and one enrichment reading for each session. The discussion groups will be monitored by teaching assistants (click here for info about teaching assistants).

THEMATIC SESSIONS:
During the evening thematic sessions you will study more extensively theories, research, problems in the chosen theme path. During the sessions participants will develop common research projects and will have an opportunity to participate in real, publication-quality studies conducted by the experts leading the path.
You will be able to choose one of three parallel thematic sessions in order to study an area of your interest at length: This year following thematic paths are available:

Track1: Inter-group conflict

Track3: Cognition and emotion and functioning in democratic systems
Course instructor: Professor George Marcus

You will decide which track you would like to follow before the beginning of the summer school. During these meetings you will discuss your own research ideas, methodological aspects and techniques applied in political psychology. In the afternoon you will also attend workshops on teaching political psychology.

ADDITIONAL EVENING SESSIONS:

MEETING SENIOR ACADEMICS - All students will participate in 2 plenary meeting with senior faculty members, renowned experts in political psychology. The experts will give talks on career development in political psychology, they will also emphasize the educational aspects of academic activities, advise young scholars on curricula development in the field of their expertise and answer participants' questions. The participants will have an opportunity to meet individually with faculty members.

MEETING POLITICIANS
- The students will participate in 2 plenary meeting with Polish politicians. The talks should give the participants some ideas on how political psychology may be applied to real life politics.
